Take Part in Nature Art

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday October 17

1:00 PM  –  2:30 PM

Careful observations by naturalists contribute so much to our understanding of the natural world. Those observations are most classically documented through imagery and art. Examples of these can be seen from Charles Darwin to James Audubon, but one of the greatest illustrators for the study of insects is Maria Sibylla Merian.

Join Airlie Gardens Education staff on a deep dive into her scientific illustrations and her discoveries of butterfly metamorphosis! Then staff will provide materials to do a step-by-step how to create a biological illustration of your own!

This program is suitable for children and adults age 8 and up. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Fee is $10 per canvas. No more than 2 participants per canvas.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Participants are required to follow all COVID-19 guidelines. Program will be conducted outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held indoors and masks will be required.
